I have been playing board games for as long as I can remember. When the summer heat in North Carolina was too much to be outside, we would retreat to playing games inside. My favorite game was Stratego but always loved the new, especially when things went electronic with Stop Thief. Even in later years, games would continue to be a major part of my life, none more that APBA Pro Baseball. Outside of gaming, I enjoy playing all sports but the current favorite is disc golf. There are some incredible courses in the area and a ever growing disc golf community keeps them in great shape. Whenever time permits, I will break out a game and play with family and friends and I get great enjoyment out of teaching new games to others though I don't do it worth squat. My favorite types of games are those that promote a fairly fast style of play and can be done in under two hours. My least favorite games are those that promote analysis paralysis by the players or promote large amounts of downtime waiting on other players. I am currently co-hosting a podcast at

RDTN Episode 50 – We’ve Only Just Begun: Stephen Buonocore (Stronghold Games), Chit Chat (Suzanne and Rhiannon), Panamax, Kanban

50thThe Big 5 0. That is right, we have made it to Episode 50 and we did not hold back. We introduce a new segment Chit Chat with two very well known contributors in the gaming community, Suzanne and Rhiannon. You recognize Suzanne from her Boardgame Breakfast segments on games for tablets and such. Suzanne was also one of the main organizers of GenCant 2014. Rhiannon of course is from Spooning Meeples and can carry on a gazillion conversations on Twitter. They join Marty, I chime in occasionally, in a discussion about helping your significant other find the joy in the gaming hobby. spooningmeeple

We are then honored to have Stephen Buonocore from Stronghold Games join us and discuss the banner 2014 year that his company has had. We learn how Stronghold got its start and just how much goes into running a small gaming company especially when it isn’t your full-time job. Then Marty and Stephen begin their love feast discussion on Panastrongholdmax and I try and muscle my way in with Diamonds. Seriously, if you love card games and those that you game with do, get this game.

We also want to give a big shout out to Eric Summerer for providing us with our intro to celebrate our 50th show and The Chalk for featuring our logo recently on Boardgaming Breakfast.

RDTN Episode 48: Carolina on my Mind – Shadowrun Crossfire, Toy Hall of Fame, and Two Contests

This episode is just us this time. We were recovering from our marathon with the Geek All Stars when we recorded this episode. We talk about the upcoming gaming convention in Charlotte called MACE which is being held November 7-9, 2014. It is at the Hilton Charlotte University Place if you can find time to come down. Marty and I hope to hold a tournament that weekend if the logistics work out. We are still ironing out the details, they are rather rough, but it will be for the charity Turner Syndrome Society. This is the same charity that the Geek Allstars support with their 24 hour gaming marathon. You can find more information about this event at Gamers for Cures. We have also received a pass to MACE that we will be giving away to someone that our listeners nominate.

CrossfireCoverOne more important thing in the episode is Catalyst Game Labs sent us some of the expansion packs for their new game Shadowrun: Crossfire. We are giving these away to four listeners who get us a picture. We can’t thank Catalyst enough for providing us with this giveaway of their expansion. Marty gives you all the details in the show but two things to remember: use #RDTNShadowrun and only available to listeners in the continental United States, sorry. The expansion cost less than shipping if we were to send it over the pond.

And all the links we promised:

RDTN 5 Minute Initiative: Star Realms

Our first attempt at doing a 5 Minute Initiative on video. We took on the killer deck builder Star Realms. This game is hot and worth all the hype in my opinion. How good is it, it has my wife’s seal of approval. She loves enjoy’s playing it and quickly caught onto the mechanics of the game. If anything, check out the free app of the game to help you decide if you want to pick this one up, but you are going to have to wait because it is sold out and the 4th, that is right, the 4th printing should hit near the end of the year.

Thanks for watching
